Conway, Ark. - Hendrix went up to seven points in league play on Friday night after a thrilling 4-3 win over Schreiner at Warrior Soccer Field.
Josh Montgomery bagged his second brace of the season, and
Jack Hamilton and
Clayton Somogyi found the net as well as the Warriors staved off a late comeback attempt from Schreiner to keep all three points in Conway.
Schreiner scored the opener inside of ten minutes for a 1-0 advantage, but Montgomery's back-post header with ten minutes remaining in the first half gave the hosts an equalizer. The score would remain 1-1 heading into halftime.
Hamilton put the Warriors up 2-1 five minutes into the second half after a scramble in the six-yard box, with the ball coming out to Hamilton, which the senior was able to poke in for the go-ahead goal. Montgomery was on the mark again just five minutes later, heading an
Edwin Arredondo cross back across goal into the bottom right corner to add to Hendrix's advantage. Somogyi made it four on the night as he was able to tuck in
Adam Tibary's squared ball across the box to put the hosts up by three.
Schreiner quickly got a goal back and looked set to trim the lead to one after winning a spot kick in the 70th minute, but
Gregorio Medina Armas was up to the challenge, diving low to his right to parry away the effort and keep the lead at two. The Mountaineers did eventually add another in the 82nd minute to make for a cagey final eight minutes in Conway, but Hendrix was able to kill the game off in th end and preserve the victory.
The win improves the Warriors to 3-6-2 and 2-2-1 in the SCAC. Hendrix will host McMurry on Sunday afternoon to round out the weekend's Homecoming festivities.
