Marshall, Texas - Hendrix took a breather from league play to take on the second-ranked East Texas Baptist Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Ornelas Gym.
After dropping the opening set 25-18, Hendrix looked to be in command in the second, using a pair of runs to take a 20-13 lead. But the Tigers rallied to win twelve of the next fourteen points and take the second set 25-22.
Facing the possibility of a sweep, the Warriors came out of the gates firing in the third set, winning six of the first seven points with the help of four Tiger attack errors. After a four-point ETBU run, Hendrix eventually built their lead up to three with the score at 9-6. Another four-point Tiger run gave ETBU the lead back, and after Hendrix tied the set at 10-10, the hosts used another big run to create more distance between the two sides. The Warriors battled back to make it a three-point contest at 20-17, but ETBU closed the match with a five-point run to clinch the match in three sets.
Riley led the Warriors offensively with 11 kills, while
Adilynn Henry dished out 19 assists and also recorded a service ace. Brady and
Hailey Gripka each tallied three blocks.
Carola Moreno led Hendrix defensively with nine digs.
The Warriors (13-3, 7-1 SCAC) return to Conway next weekend as they resume conference play with the return fixtures versus LeTourneau and Centenary at Grove Gymnasium.
