Houston, Texas - Hendrix took its conference winning streak up to three on Friday night with a 1-0 win over St. Thomas at Sabercats Stadium.
Tripp Ortega's 27th minute strike was enough to secure the three points on the road as the Warriors won the third match on the bounce and clinched their first-ever win over the Celts. Ortego put the Warriors ahead with a superb one-time finish at the top of the box after receiving a lay-off from
Clayton Somogyi and
Jensen Pechar.
Hendrix also received a fantastic performance from its freshman goalkeeper,
Gregorio Medina Armas, who made seven saves over the 90 minutes to keep St. Thomas off the scoresheet. The Celts registered 17 total shots on the night, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Six bookings were issued on Friday night, with St. Thomas' Fernando Lazo seeing red after a second yellow card as he was subbing off.
Hendrix is now 5-6-2 on the year and 4-2-1 in the SCAC. They currently sit third in the league on 13 points, and will face Centenary on Sunday afternoon in Shreveport in a matchup of the two top-four sides.
