Volleyball Rallies to Beat Colorado College at Crossover

Houston, Texas - Hendrix rallied from an opening-set loss to defeat Colorado College 3-1 on Sunday afternoon and end the weekend with a winning record in the first SCAC Crossover event of the season.

Ana Bastos and Riley Brady led the Warriors offensively with 12 kills each.

Defensively is where Hendrix shined, with Brittany Newberry's side tallying 13 blocks at the net to just 3 from Colorado College. Hailey Gripka and Brady were each in on six blocks, while Perri Evans and Mariana Leite combined for nine block assists.

The two teams slugged through the second set with both sides trading points. The Warriors put some distance between themselves and the Tigers with the score at 21-17, but CC rallied to tie the set at 22-22. Hendrix eventually prevailed in the set with a 3-0 scoring run to level the match at one set apiece.

The final two sets were dominated by the Warriors. Hendrix went on scoring runs of four or more points three times in the third set and four times in the fourth set. In the final set, CC got it to within four points with the set at 15-11 before Hendrix went on a 4-0 run. The Tigers responded with three-consecutive points to get it within 5, but a five-point swing from the Warriors gave them a nine-point advantage which proved to be too much for Colorado College to overcome.

Carola Moreno led Hendrix with 17 digs, with Brady tallying 15. Faith Jones also had double-digit digs with 10.

The win improves Hendrix to 12-2, 6-1 in the SCAC. The Warriors will return to Conway next Saturday to host in-state foe Ozarks on Homecoming. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
