Conway, Ark. - Hendrix defeated Ozarks 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Soccer Field to clinch a berth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament next weekend in Round Rock, Texas.
The Warriors celebrated Senior Day as well, and senior
Olivia Van Dusen kicked off the festivities with her first career-goal inside of six minutes, slotting in a right-footed effort in the top right corner off a scramble inside the box. The two sides traded chances in the first half, but Ozarks was unable to find an equalizer, while the Warriors failed to increase the lead as the two went into halftime at 1-0.
It took
Sofia Fennelly all but 16 seconds to double Hendrix's lead in the second half, running onto a long ball from
Laramie Cox and finishing a 1-on-1 with the Eagle's goalkeeper with a little dink over the top to put the Warriors 2-0 ahead.
Ozarks continued to press as they sought to fight back into the match, but Hendrix's back-line limited the Eagles' forward chances, holding Ozarks' to just two shots on frame over the 90 minutes, both of which were saved by
Kennedy Lewis.
Hendrix ends the regular season 4-4-2 in the league. They sit level on points with Austin College and finish the year one goal ahead of the 'Roos on goal differential.
The SCAC tournament will kick off on Thursday next week in Round Rock, Texas, with the Warriors' first-round opponent yet to be decided.
