Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB | Warriors Squander First-Half Lead versus Southwestern

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix jumped out to a big first-half lead in their home opener but ultimately could not keep up the pace as they suffered their first loss on Sunday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium.

The Warriors opened the game on a 7-2 run with 5 points coming early from Brailey Forst. Megan Manuel's three-ball at the 1:51 mark gave Hendrix an 11-6 lead, and Brooklyn Rowe added onto the lead early in the second quarter with a layup and a long ball to put Hendrix up 17-8. The threes then began to rain for Wes Sullivan's side as Manuel connected on her next three three-pointers and Natalie Edmonson added another on the ensuing four possessions to give Hendrix a 29-12 advantage. Rowe's three-ball with 2:53 remaining in the quarter put the Warriors up by 13, and the lead would then climb as high as 17 thanks to a fastbreak layup from Chloey-Rei Brown and a couple of foul shots from Rowe. Hendrix went into halftime leading 39-26 after Southwestern nailed a three with just under thirty seconds remaining in the first half.

The hosts' offensive explosion in the first half did not carry into the second half, while the Pirates quickly built up steam. Southwestern cut the lead to six with just over four minutes remaining in the third period, and then took their first lead of the contest with four seconds left on a three-pointer to make it 47-45. Hendrix only managed 12 points in the second half, while Southwestern added 20 more points in the fourth quarter to walk out of Grove Gymnasium with a 67-51 victory.

Rowe and Manuel both finished with 12 points. Forst was two points off a double-double after collecting 12 boards. Southwestern forced Hendrix into 21 turnovers with 13 steals, and also scored 23 second-chance points to just 4 from Hendrix. The Warriors shot 32.1% from the field and 27.6% from behind the arc.

The Warriors (1-1) remain in Conway to host in-state foe Lyon on Tuesday for a 6:00 tip at Grove Gymnasium.
