Conway, Ark. - Hendrix dropped to 0-5 season with a narrow 71-65 loss to the East Texas Baptist Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium.
Jaxon Herrera led the Warriors with 16 points off the bench, going 5-of-12 from the field and 3-of-7 from behind the arc. The sophomore guard provided a massive spark off the bench, scoring 14 of his 16 points in a seven minute span down the stretch to keep the contest in reach of the hosts. Trailing by eight with 8:28 remaining in the game, Herrera hit his first of three triples, then knocked down three from the line 30 seconds later to bring Hendrix within two.
With 3:38 remaining in regulation, ETBU took a nine-point lead before Herrera once again went on a solo scoring run, registering the game's next five points off a layup and a long ball to bring the Warriors back within four with the score at 64-60. A couple foul shots with 0:41 remaining put the Tigers up by six until a
Lucas Marquez tip-in cut the deficit back down to four with 0:22 left. But it would prove to be too little, too late as the visitors were able to put the game away from the free throw line and win by six.
Joseph Dockett finished the afternoon with 14 points and a game-high 9 boards.
Holden Plant finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
The Warriors (0-5) will get a day's rest before returning to action on Tuesday evening as they host NAIA and in-state foe Williams Baptist for a 6:00 tip at Grove Gymnasium.
