Batesville, Ark. - It was a tale of four quarters on Sunday afternoon as the Hendrix Warriors took down Lyon 78-71 at Becknell Gymnasium to open the 2025-26 season.
Four Warriors finished in double-figures as Hendrix shot 40.3% from the field and knocked down 7-of-23 three-point attempts.
Brailey Forst led the Warriors with 16 points and 14 rebounds to record a double-double to start the year, while
Megan Manuel impressed in her collegiate debut with 15 points, hitting on four of her five three-pointers and finishing five-of-six from the field.
Natalie Edmonson finished with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, and
Carter Crane put up 12 points and 7 boards inside.
The two sides traded points in the opening quarter as Hendrix narrowly edged out the hosts to take a 21-19 lead into the second frame. The floodgates opened up in the ensuing quarter as
Wes Sullivan's side outscored Lyon 28-13 to take a 49-32 lead into halftime.
Hendrix led by as many 24 in the second half but began to see their lead dwindle as the Scots fought their way back into the contest. With 4:22 remaining in the game, Lyon cut the deficit to three, but a five-point run gave Hendrix some breathing room thanks to back-to-back buckets from Crane. The Warriors hit enough foul shots down the stretch to ward off Lyon and secure the win, despite shooting just over 50% from the stripe.
The win was Hendrix's first over their in-state foes since Lyon transitioned to Division III.
The Warriors will open up the 2025-26 home slate next Sunday as they host Southwestern (TX) at Grove Gymnasium for a 12:00 tip.
