Conway, Ark. - Hendrix defeated the ninth-ranked East Texas Baptist Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Baseball Field on the back of a strong outing from the Warrior pitching staff.
Hendrix got the scoring started in the home half of the first when
Drake Job was issued a one-out walk before eventually being driven in by a
Joseph Watts bases-loaded RBI groundout. Hendrix failed to take further advantage of having runners in scoring position and took a 1-0 lead into the second inning. After ETBU grabbed a run back on a one-out solo shot in the top of the third, the Warriors retook their lead in the bottom half of the inning when
Ian Guthrie singled up the middle to bring in
Zane Nolan. From there, the game would become a straight pitchers' duel.
Jackson Corrigan toed the rubber to start the afternoon and allowed the lone run on just three hits in 3.0 innings, sitting down 9 of the 13 hitters he faced.
Aiden Leggett entered in relief of Corrigan and kept the Tigers at bay in 3.2 scoreless innings of work, scattering two hits while working around four walks. Leggett got himself into a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 7th and was relieved by
Chance Reed, who promptly got the Tigers to ground out to end the inning and get out of the jam.
Rowan Glover entered in the 8th inning and worked around a walk to toss a hitless frame before handing the ball over to
Braxton Waller in the 9th inning, who shut the door on the Tigers with a 1-2-3 inning to earn the save and clinch the win for Hendrix.
Hendrix and ETBU both recorded just 5 hits on the afternoon,
The Warriors (5-3) will now head to Marshall to take on ETBU and Adrian in a weekend of baseball in Texas before Hendrix kicks off league play next week with a home series versus Sewanee.
