Baseball Loses in Extra Innings to Lyon

Conway, Ark. - It took twelve innings to separate Hendrix and Lyon at Warrior Baseball Field as the Scots came out on top 9-5 on Tuesday night.

After Lyon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Drake Job was brought in by an Ian Guthrie one-out single up the middle. Job had tripled to right field in his at-bat.

Cole Joyner worked around a couple one-out hits in the top of the second to retire the side, but Hendrix was put down in order in the next half inning. The game remained knotted up at 1-1 until the Scots broke out in the sixth inning with a three-spot with a couple RBI triples and a dropped third strike that resulted in a passed ball. Hendrix responded in the home half of the inning that was led off with an Ian Guthrie double to right field. After Owen Shaw reached on an error, Griffin Baird scored Guthrie on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. Joseph Watts advanced Shaw to second with a single before Zane Nolan doubled to right field to score Shaw and send Watts to third. Zylan Brown then scored Watts on an infield single to tie the game at 4-4.

After the Scots took a 5-4 lead in the seventh on a wild pitch, Baird doubled to left center to score Shaw and tie the game for the third time.

The game went into extra innings and the tie was not broken until the top of the twelth when the Scots scored four runs to take a 9-5 lead. Hendrix was put down in order in the final frame to end the game.

Joyner allowed just one run on seven hits in five solid innings. Braxton Waller was the pitcher of record after entering in the eighth inning. The junior allowed only two hits in his first couple frames and finished with seven strikeouts in five innings of work, but was touched up in his fifth and final inning after being extended past his typical innings count.

The Warriors drop to 9-5 on the season and will remain in Conway to host Nichols College on Saturday for a 1:00 PM doubleheader.
