Abilene, Texas - After blowing a 6-1 lead to drop the series opener to McMurry 7-6 on Thursday night, Hendrix looked to respond from the heartbreak and even up the series. And they did – in a big, big way.
The Warriors run-ruled McMurry 20-5 on Friday night at Walt Driggers Field after losing eight of their last nine contests to get back into the win column and set up a rubber match on Saturday afternoon.
Hendrix took an early 1-0 lead in the first when
Drake Job singled in
Shaun Pope for the game's first run after Pope led off the inning with a single. Job was then brought in by a one-out
Austin Rabago single. The War Hawks got on the board in the bottom half of the first, but Hendrix opened up the floodgates with a five-run second inning that was capped off by a
Hogan Ralston two-RBI single to make it 7-1.
Zane Nolan took advantage of an E2 in the third inning to plate his second run of the game, then drew an RBI-walk in the fourth inning for his first RBI of the night.
The Warriors poured it on in the fifth inning as Rabago forced an infield bases-loaded error by the second baseman to score Job.
Griffin Baird then singled in
Giancarlo Digiacomo and
Ian Guthrie, and Nolan scored Rabago on a one-out sacrifice fly to make it 13-1 and bring the run rule into effect. Hendrix plated five more runs in the sixth and hit the twenty-run mark in the seventh, their highest single-game run total since Opening Day of the 2023 season.
Dylan Kalmus (W, 5-2) scattered seven hits across five innings and allowed three runs with six strikeouts. Nate Hirsch and
Tucker Isbell both threw a scoreless frame in relief.
Hendrix (11-12, 4-2 SAA) now sets its sights on a series win tomorrow as they take on the War Hawks in the rubber match. First pitch for the final game is set for noon from Walt Driggers Field.
