Abilene, Texas - Hendrix dropped its weekend series to McMurry in the rubber match on Saturday afternoon at Walt Driggers Field.
The War Hawks jumped out in front in the third with a four-run inning that was capped off by a three-run homer. They added two more runs across the next three innings to take a 6-0 lead into the seventh before Hendrix was able to get on the board.
Owen Shaw led off the seventh with a single and advanced to second on a
Charlie Deaton pinch-hit single. Both runners moved up 90 feet on a ground out from
Joseph Watts.
Drake Job then singled in Shaw and Deaton to trim the lead to four but was left stranded at third to end the inning after the next two hitters were retired.
Shaun Pope's single in the eighth inning moved
Zane Nolan to third base, who was then brought in on an
Owen Shaw single to make it 6-3.
Connor Bryson tossed two scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth to give Hendrix a chance to tie the game in the final inning, but the Warriors were put down 1-2-3 to end the game and lose the series.
Aiden Leggett (L, 2-1) was the pitcher of record after allowing five runs on four hits while striking out seven in 3.1 innings.
Hendrix (11-13, 4-2 SAA) will return to Conway to resume conference play next weekend as they host Rhodes for a three-game series at Warrior Baseball Field.
