Millington, Tenn. - After splitting Sunday's doubleheader versus Rhodes on Sunday, Hendrix dropped the rubber match on Monday evening at USA Stadium in Millington to lose their second-consecutive Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series.
Game 1 (L, 3-1)
Sunday's series opener was a straight pitchers duel, as Hendrix outhit the Lynx 6-5 but were only able to plate a solo run. That run came in the eighth inning off a
Charlie Deaton lead-off home run. The Warriors hit into a couple plays over the course of the game and also committed a pair of double plays.
Dylan Kalmus allowed just one earned run on two hits in 6.0 IP on the mound with three strikeouts.
Chance Reed and Connor Bryson each threw a scoreless frame in relief.
Ian Guthrie led the Warriors with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
Game 2 (W, 8-0)
Hendrix responded to take Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader in dominating fashion as
Aiden Leggett picked up his fourth winning decision of the season after throwing 5.1 IP of shutout ball with nine strikeouts and facing just two batters above the minimum.
Nate Hirsh and
Hogan Ralston entered in relief to ensure the combined shutout.
The Warriors drew first blood in the third inning as
Austin Rabago singled in
Hogan Ralston and
Joseph Watts for the game's first runs.
Drake Job then singled in Rabago to take a 3-0 lead, but he and
Zane Nolan were left stranded on the corners to end the inning. Job drove in Rabago again in the fifth, this time on a sacrifice fly, and Nolan then scored from second on an
Ian Guthrie RBI single.
Charlie Deaton drew a two-out walk to load the bases, and Guthrie scored on the ensuing at-bat from third on a wild pitch to make it 6-0.
Hogan Ralston walked to load the bases once again, and the game broke open with a
Joseph Watts double to score
Owen Shaw and Deaton, but Ralston was thrown out at home 9-3-2 to end the inning.
Leggett, Hirsh, and Ralston put the Lynx combined to put the Lynx down in order in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the win.
Game 3 (L, 6-4)
Jackson Corrigan got the ball in the rubber match and was superb, spinning four scoreless innings of three-hit ball.
Hendrix opened the scoring in the fifth with some two-out damage as
Joseph Watts singled in
Owen Shaw after Shaw reached on a single of his own.
Hogan Ralston then walked to load the bases, but final batter was retired to end the inning.
Rhodes made Hendrix pay in the sixth with some two-out damage of their own. The Lynx took advantage of an error to load the bases, then took the lead on a two-RBI double that was then followed up by a three-run home run to go up 5-1. The Warriors responded in the next half inning with an
Owen Shaw lead-off homer.
Jacob Carpentier laced a pinch-hit double to left field to score Ralston and Watts and cut the deficit to one.
Zane Nolan singled to put runners on the corners, and
Drake Job walked to put ducks on the pond for
Ian Guthrie. However, the designated hitter was retired to end the inning and leave the bases loaded.
The Lynx tacked on one more in the seventh inning to make it 6-4. Hendrix went down in order in the eighth inning but brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with a runner on second with a chance to extend the game until Rhodes was able to turn a double play to end the game.
