Atlanta, Ga. - Hendrix celebrated its final conference road series in Georgia with a weekend sweep over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. The sweep, combined with Millsaps' sweep of Berry, means that the Warriors will head into next weekend two games ahead of fifth place for the right to host a first-round series in the Southern Athletic Association playoffs.
Game 1 (W, 13-6)
Hendrix put together a stellar offensive showing in the series opener, scoring 13 runs on 16 hits.
Dylan Kalmus got the ball to start after missing last weekend's series and allowed just one run on five hits in 4.0 innings.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the second inning as
Joseph Watts singled in
Austin Rabago from second base after Rabago had reached scoring position on a one-out double. In the third,
Drake Job kept the inning going with a two-out single and was promptly brought in on an
Owen Shaw triple. Job paid it forward in the fourth inning with a bases-loaded two-RBI single. Watts singled in Rabago again in the fifth inning to make it 5-1, but Oglethorpe made things interesting in the home half of the inning with three runs before
Nate Hirsh entered in relief of
Nathan Buchman and was able to put out the fire.
Hendrix responded in the top of the sixth with a three-spot courtesy of an
Owen Shaw two-RBI double and an
Austin Rabago RBI single.
Rabago added three more runs to the board in the eighth off a three-run shot, his first long ball of the year. The Warriors tacked on two more in the ninth inning for a comfortable seven-run lead and
Braxton Waller shut the door on the home side with a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to secure the opening game.
Rowan Glover (W, 1-0) picked up his first decision on the mound after allowing just three base runners in 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.
Game 2 (W, 4-0)
Hendrix clinched the series in the second half of the doubleheader as
Aiden Leggett (W, 4-2) spun 6.0 scoreless innings while scattering just three hits and striking out eight. Waller entered in the seventh inning and again shut the door on Oglethorpe with three strikeouts to retire the side and complete the combined shutout.
Watts brought in Rabago in the second inning on a sacrifice fly for the game's first run.
Ian Guthrie led off the fourth inning with a solo shot to left field to double the lead, and Rabago touched home for the second time later in the inning on a
Giancarlo Digiacomo sacrifice fly. Hendrix scored the final run of the game in the top of the fifth on an
Owen Shaw double to score
Zane Nolan.
Game 3 (W, 11-9)
The Warriors got the scoring started early in the series finale and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning.
Ian Guthrie and
Austin Rabago each recorded RBI doubles.
Oglethorpe responded with two runs in the second and four runs in the third to take a 6-5 lead, but the Warriors answered right back as Rabago doubled in Guthrie to tie the game at 6-6. Trailing 8-6 in the fifth, Watts and Nolan recorded back-to-back RBI doubles to make it 8-8. Hendrix took the lead later in the inning as Rabago induced an infield throwing error with bases loaded that allowed Nolan and
Drake Job to score.
Owen Shaw added onto the lead in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to score Nolan, and
Hogan Ralston entered in relief of
Conner Bryson in the eighth and was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam with a double play and a one-unassisted groundout to retire the side with just one run given up. Waller entered in the ninth inning and was able to work around a couple of two-out hits to toss a scoreless frame and earn his third save of the season.
