Clarksville, Ark. - Hendrix hit Ozarks early and often on Wednesday evening at Lonnie R. Qualls Field en route to a 14-3 win over their in-state foes.
Ian Guthrie opened the scoring in the first with a grand slam, and
Joseph Watts followed that up with a two-out solo shot to give Hendrix an early 5-0 lead.
Cole Joyner started on the mound and put together three scoreless innings of three-hit ball, facing just two batters above the minimum.
Drake Job singled in
Austin Rabago in the second to give Hendrix a 6-0 lead, and the Warriors added three more runs in the next inning off RBI singles from Rabago, Job, and
Zane Nolan. Nolan and Rabago led the Warriors on the evening with three hits each. Watts added another run in the fourth, scoring from third on an Ozarks error as the Eagles tried to throw
Nick Echaniz out at second base.
After the Eagles plated three runs across the fourth and fifth innings, Hendrix answered back with a four-spot in the seventh inning to put the mercy rule back into effect, and
Cooper Carlton put the Eagles down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning to secure the run-rule victory. Carlton entered in the fifth inning and allowed just one run on two hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts to earn the three-inning save, his first of the season.
The win improves Hendrix to 13-15 on the year, and they will now head to Rome, Georgia for a three-game conference series with the Berry Vikings.
