Longview, Texas - Hendrix's unbeaten run in league play looked set to end on Sunday afternoon to LeTourneau before the Warriors were able to fight off two match points and eventually take the match in what was a back-and-forth five-set thriller in Longview.
Hailey Gripka led all participants with 18 kills in what was a career-day for the senior.
Ana Bastos and
Riley Brady joined Gripka in double-digit kills with 16 and 13, respectively.
The Warriors breezed to a 25-14 opening-set victory but found themselves behind the eight-ball after dropping the next two sets. Hendrix rallied to the fourth set to extend the match to a fifth. The two sides went point-for-point in the final set, with neither leading by more than two points until the YellowJackets went on a three-point run late to take a 12-9 lead. After Hendrix tied it at 12-12, LeTourneau set up match point with two-consecutive points, but the Warriors responded with three-consecutive points to not only fight off match point but set up their own match-point opportunity. Hendrix was unable to take advantage of two match-point opportunities until Bastos and Gripka put the match to bed with back-to-back kills.
As a team, the Warriors hit 0.202 on 193 total attacks and got 10 points from service aces. Defensively, they recorded 88 digs and 14 blocks at the net.
