BATESVILLE - Hendrix baseball suffered a season-sweep to Lyon College with a 9-4 loss on Tuesday afternoon in Batesville.
Hendrix put some early traffic on the base-path as
Giancarlo Digiacomo worked a lead-off walk and
Austin Rabago singled to get two on. Rabago eventually scored on a
Jacob Moody RBI fielder's choice, with Moody reaching scoring position on the play, but Hendrix was unable to score the second run as the run was retired.
Lyon scored two runs across the first and second innings to take the lead, and that lead grew in what became a snowball of a fourth inning as the Scots plated six runs to take an 8-1 lead. After Digiacomo led off the visitor fifth with a single, Rabago homered to right field to make it an 8-3 game, and
Zane Nolan singled in
Ryan Lang to decrease the deficit to four. But the Warriors were held scoreless over the last four innings, leaving five on base over that stretch. Lyon added an insurance run in the eighth to go up by five.
Rabago and Lang led the Warriors at the plate with two hits apiece.
On the mound,
Cooper Carlton punched out two hitters over his two-inning shutout relief appearance to mark his first outing of the year.
Hendrix (19-15, 14-10 SCAC) now hits the road to take on LeTourneau for a pivotal three-game series in Longview, Texas over the weekend.
