McClure, Thomson Headline All-SCAC Honors

5/12/2026 10:00:00 AM

CONWAY, Ark. - On Tuesday, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference released its major award winners and All-SCAC honorees, with Hendrix's Wesley McClure and James Thomson claiming a sweep of the individual major awards and earning First Team All-SCAC singles and doubles honors, while Santiago Perez was named to Second Team All-SCAC.

McClure amassed a 15-3 record this season at No. 1 singles, with his only Division III losses coming in the Round of 32 at the ITA Fall regionals to Farhaan Patrawala of NC Wesleyan and to DePauw's Scott Anderson on March 8. McClure went undefeated (8-0) throughout the SCAC regular season, not dropping a single set at the top line. He and his doubles parter James Thomson were tabbed as First Team All-SCAC and went 16-3 this season on the No. 1 line, which included a 7-1 mark during the conference regular season. The duo was also named to the All-Tournament team last month for their doubles' performance. McClure book-ended his regular season with a SCAC Doubles Team of the Week selection in Week 1 and then a SCAC Player-of-the-Week honor in Week 10 to close out the regular season. After helping lead the Warriors to the second seed at the conference tournament and the program's best finish in 15+ years, McClure's recognition as SCAC Player-of-the-Year marks the first-ever SCAC men's tennis player of the year award in the program's history. He becomes the first Hendrix men's tennis player since Agustin Kalinowski to earn a conference player of the year honor after Kalinowski was named the SAA Player of the Year by the Southern Athletic Association in 2024.

Thomson went 13-7 at No. 2 singles in his inaugural campaign at Hendrix, which included an 8-1 mark in SCAC regular season play. He earned All-Tournament honors for both his singles and doubles play at last month's SCAC Championships, leading the Warriors to the third-place match (which was not played due to inclement weather). A First Team All-SCAC selection, he and his teammate Wesley McClure, also earned All-SCAC First Team accolades for their doubles' performance at the No. 1 line, posting a 16-3 record, which included a 7-1 mark over the course of the conference regular season. The duo was the league's Doubles Team of the Week in Week 1. Thomson's selection as SCAC First-Year Player-of-the-Year is a first in program history.

Perez, who was also named the SCAC Men's Tennis Elite 19 award winner on Tuesday, was dominant in the No. 4 singles spot, posting a 13-3 overall record and helped lead Hendrix to their 9-1 SCAC record.
