BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Hendrix College men's soccer team battled Birmingham-Southern College to 1-1 double overtime in a Southern Athletic Association road match on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half, the host Panthers (5-4-4, 2-0-2) scored in the 58th minute when Tobias Winter's pass found Cory Gonzalez for the score. The Warriors (8-4-2, 1-2-1) tied it up in the 67th minute when freshman midfielder Jacob Pierce scored after a long free kick from senior defender
Kevin Gregory.
Both teams recorded three shots in the extra periods, but neither could capitalize.
Hendrix dominated the first half with an 11-6 shots advantage, but BSC had a 13-2 edge in the second. For the match, the Panthers outshot the Warriors 22-16 and 8-3 in on goal chances.
Warrior freshman keeper Marco Luna registered seven saves, while Alex Levinson had one for the Panthers.
Hendrix will step out of conference play on Sunday when they travel to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala. for a 2 p.m. start.
