Warriors Win Inaugural SAA Match

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In their first ever Southern Athletic Association match, the Hendrix College volleyball team defeated Rhodes College 24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 at Mallory-Hyde Gymnasium on Wednesday night. Senior Kristen Finch recorded a career-high 18 kills and junior Katie Burchfield also had a personal best with 23 digs to propel the Warriors (3-6, 1-0) to the four-set victory.

After dropping the first 26-24, Hendrix found themselves down to the Lynx (2-7, 0-1) 15-10 in the second set before going on 10-3 run in the second set to secure the lead. The Warriors jumped out to a 15-10 lead in the third and managed to hold off the Rhodes attack.

Hendrix also trailed 18-15 in the fourth, before storming back for the 25-23 win.

Finch led the offense with 18 kills and Burchfield had 10 kills for her second double-double of the year. Senior middle blocker Melissa Clement also had 11 kills and senior Katie Bates added nine. Junior setter Zoe Calhoun also recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 12 digs. Freshman libero Jill Sikes add 15 digs and freshman Felicia Beeman had 10.

Meagan Mansfield paced the Lynx with 19 kills and Lexie Krell had 14. Tasha Heller came up with 25 digs and setter Michelle Quina had 26 assists and 13 digs.

For the match, Hendrix connected on 54 kills and hit .196 with eight aces, 77 digs and seven blocks. Rhodes had 50 kills, hit .166, six aces, 79 digs and seven blocks.

Hendrix will return home on Friday for a home conference match with Millsaps.
