CONWAY, Ark. – Senior forward Connor Silvestri broke the Hendrix College career goals record as the Warriors topped the University of the Ozarks 5-0 on Tuesday night. The Conway, Ark. native scored a pair of goals, giving him 37 for his career, passing Duncan Keegan's (2008-11) mark of 36. Silvestri is also eight points behind Keegan's school record of 93.
Hendrix (2-0-1) also set another milestone as it was the first time the Warriors have recorded three consecutive shutouts in the program's 22-year history. Freshman keeper Marco Luna has been in goal for all three of the matches and he recorded three saves in Tuesday's win over the Eagles (0-1-1).
Silvestri opened the scoring just 2:33 into the game, finding the net on passes from freshman Pedro Sagone and sophomore Joe Esrock. Freshman midfielder Jacob Pierce found the net with an assist from sophomore Greg Gandy eight minutes into the contest to go up 2-0.
Silvestri scored the record-breaking goal on a spectacular scissor kick from 18 yards out after a pass from junior Tresor Mukiza in the 19th minute. Freshman C.J. Thompson gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead in the 39th minute after he knocked in Sagone's shot that bounced off the crossbar.
Sophomore Kyle Wicks blasted a kick through the Eagles' keeper hands with one minute to play for the final score of the game.
In total, Hendrix outshot Ozarks 22-7 and had an 11-3 shots on goal advantage.
Hendrix will play the second game of a six-match home stand on Friday against East Texas Baptist at 8 p.m.
