CONWAY, Ark. – Senior forward Mel Roach scored a school record four goals as the Hendrix College women's soccer team blasted LeTourneau University 7-1 at Warrior Field on Saturday night. The Russellville, Ark. native also recorded an assist, giving her a total of nine points, also a program best.
The Warriors (2-2) tied the school record for most goals in a game record, netting seven for the sixth time in program history.
Hendrix dominated the game, outshooting the YellowJackets (0-5) 24-10 and 15-5 in shots on goal.
Senior forward Rebecca Rahn scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute on an assist from Roach and senior midfielder Ana Contreras. Roach scored her first f the night in the 24th minute on a pass from Rahn. Senior midfielder Morgan Scott blasted a free kick into the net from 25 yards out in the 26th minute to give the Warriors a 3-0 halftime lead.
Just 45 seconds into the second half, Rahn found Roach again for the score. Another 25 ticks on the clock went by before Roach secured the hat trick. She then broke the record in the 51st minute. Rahn, who was responsible for six points, scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to give the Warriors a 7-0 advantage.
The YellowJackets broke the shutout in the 84th minute when Nicole Kemper scored on a corner kick pass from Liz Bowman.
Freshman keeper Rachel Zweig recorded two saves in 54 scoreless minutes for the Warriors and Emily Kleinfelter had one save in 36 minutes. Kemper, who started the game in goal for LeTourneau, had seven saves in the first half and Jamie Aguillen recorded one in the second period.
The Warriors will be back in action Tuesday when they host Austin College at 4 p.m.
