TYLER, Texas – Hendrix College senior middle blocker Melissa Clement became the fifth player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill milestone on Friday. However, the Warriors (1-5) fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor 25-16, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20 and UT Tyler 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 at UTT's Trinity Mother Frances Invitational.
Clement, from Rogers, Ark., recorded 20 kills in the opener and added another 10 in the nightcap, giving her a total of 1,022 for her career, and moving into fourth place on Hendrix' all-time list.
Against The Cru (4-1), Clement hit .500 and had three total blocks to pace the Warriors. Sophomore middle blocker Carson Hunter added a career-high nine kills and two blocks and junior setter Zoe Calhoun had 32 assists. Freshman Jill Sikes led the defense with 18 digs and sophomore Ella Concavage-Nasar came up with 13 digs.
Against the host Patriots (4-2), Clement once again led the way with 10 kills and hit .273 with four blocks. Senior right side hitter Kristen Finch had nine kills and two blocks and senior outside Katie Bates had seven kills. Calhoun recorded 26 assists and Sikes dug up a season-best 20 balls. Concavage-Nasar had 12 digs and junior Katie Burchfield added 11.
The Warriors will take on East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau to close out the tournament on Saturday.
