Warriors Fall to First Place Panthers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Hendrix College men's basketball team lost 78-66 at the hands of Southern Athletic Association leader Birmingham-Southern at Bill Battle Coliseum on Friday night. The Warriors (6-14, 1-8)  shot just 42 percent (23-of-55) from the field, while the host Panthers (15-4, 8-1) shot a blazing 54 percent (28-of-52).

BSC built an early 15-5 lead at the 11:11 mark of the first half, but Hendrix chipped away with a 10-1 run over the next 2:12 to cut the lead to 16-15 with 8:59 to play in the period. The Panthers survived the run and built their advantage to 41-30 at the break.

In the second half, BSC built their lead to as many as 22 early on. Trailing 64-45 with 9:42 left in the game, the Warriors outscored the Panthers 18-7 to get with eight points at the 2:19 mark. BSC held off the run, by making six free throws and a layup in the final minutes of the contest.

Hendrix, who had excellent bench production with six different guys scoring 34 points, shot 6-of-16 from three point range and 14-of-25 from the free throw line. Birmingham-Southern shot 6-of-21 from outside and 16-of-27 from the stripe. BSC also held a 38-30 rebound margin.

Junior forward Colton Primm scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and recorded two steals for the Warriors. Senior guard Jaren Riley scored 10 points and freshman guard Jordan Barrett tied his season-best with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting. Freshman guard Will Roland also came off the bench for seven points and a season-high eight rebounds.

Zac Richards paced the Panthers with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting to go with nine boards. Larry Thomas added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Kegarise scored 13 points. Blaise White dished out 10 assists to go with his seven points.

Hendrix will play their final road conference game at Millsaps in Jackson, Miss. on Sunday.
