BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Hendrix College women's basketball team fell to Birmingham-Southern 77-56 in Southern Athletic Association play at Bill Battle Coliseum on Friday night. The host Panthers (10-10, 5-4) shot 51 percent (31-of-61) from the field, while the Warriors (1-19, 1-8) struggled, making just 36 percent (22-of-61) of their attempts.
BSC opened the game with a 20-6 lead with 13:11 left in the first period. Hendrix fought back with a 10-0 run, including four points each from juniors
Jamie Tate and
Katie Coughran, to make the game 20-16 with 8:18 remaining in the period. The Panthers held off the run, moving the lead back to 13 before finally taking a 39-30 advantage into the break.
In the second half, the Panthers led by as many as 21 as they shot 50 percent in the period, while the Warriors, who shot 46 percent in the first half, dropped to 27 percent in the second.
Hendrix also went 2-for-17 from the three-point range and 10-of-12 at the free throw line. BSC went 6-of-17 from outside and 9-of-12 from the stripe. The Panthers held a 39-33 rebound advantage.
Tate paced the Warriors with 17 points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard

Kaitlin McNeill added nine points and eight boards. Freshman guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler scored seven points with three assists and Coughran and sophomore
Kati Broberg each scored six.
Melanie Short scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Caroline King had 15 points and seven assists. Erin Moore scored 14 and Stefanie Kaiser and Alex Adams added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Hendrix will travel to Jackson, Miss. for a 1 p.m. game at Millsaps College on Sunday.
