Warriors End Regular Season On High Note

CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 51-48 victory over Sewanee – University of the South at Grove Gymnasium on Sunday. The Warriors end the regular season with a 4-21 overall record and 4-10 mark in Southern Athletic Association play.

They enter the SAA Tournament in Jackson, Miss. by winning three of their last four. Hendrix will open the tournament as the sixth seed and take on third-seed and co-SAA champion Centre College on Friday.

The visiting Tigers (6-18, 0-14) led the entire first half, building the lead to as much as 12. With Sewanee up 26-17 with 2:30 left in the period, the Warriors ended the half with a layup by junior center Jamie Tate and a three-pointer by freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler, cutting the deficit to 26-22 at the break.

With Sewanee up 48-47 with 2:44 left in the game, Hendrix took the lead for good on a jumper from junior forward Katie Cougrhan at the 1:51 mark. After exchanging possessions, the Warriors sealed the win with a pair of Kriesel-Bigler free throws with 6.1 seconds left in the game. 

For the game, Hendrix shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52), 3-of-14 from three-point range and 10-of-14 at the free throw line. Sewanee shot 32 percent (17-of-53), 6-of-26 from outside and 8-of-10 at the line. The Tigers had a 34-33 rebound advantage.

Tate led the Warriors with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kriesel-Bigler had 15 points and five assists. Coughran finished with six points and three assists and freshman forward Katy Gallien added five points. Junior Kaitlin McNeill came off the bench to record five points, six rebounds and three assists.

Paige Lowe led the Tigers with 17 points, hitting five three-pointers. Jamie Chauvin scored 13 points and Kayla Sewell had 12 points and seven rebounds.
