CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Hendrix College baseball team lost a 7-6 decision in the bottom of the ninth to the University of the Ozarks at Lonnie Qualls Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 3-3 on the young season, while the Eagles improve to 6-2.
UO catcher Sam Shook led the bottom of the first off with a solo home run to put the Eagles up 1-0 early. Hendrix tied the game in the third when junior center fielder
Collin Radack hit an infield single, stole a base and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Eagle starter Freddy Prince.
Freshman shortstop
Brandon Smith drew a walk in the top of the fourth and scored on a base hit by sophomore
Ryan Ritz to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead. Ozarks went back ahead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter John Singler and a two-run homer off the bat of Brandon Brewer.
Hendrix regained a 5-4 lead in the sixth when Radack drove in Ritz and freshman second baseman
Charlie St. Clair with a double, followed by a
Brady Newville base hit that allowed Radack to score.
Junior left fielder
Austin Womack put the Warriors up 6-4 in the top of the seventh on a base hit to left field, scoring sophomore catcher
Seth Mobley. Ozarks cut the deficit to one in the eighth when Brewer reached on an error to start the frame and eventually scored on a Shook sac fly.
In the bottom of the ninth, Nick Brill and Tony Morales led off with back-to-back singles. After a Singler sac bunt, Brewer was intentionally walked to load the bases. Petyon Johnigan followed with a ground ball to the shortstop, which was mishandled, causing two runs to score, including the game winner.
Offensively, Ritz went 4-for-5 with a run scored and driven in. Radack extended his hitting streak to 11 games with three hits, including a pair of doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Brill went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the Eagles. Moarles also had two hits.

Ted Smoyer, making his first appearance since 2011, last five innings, giving up nine hits, four runs, three walks and one strikeout. Freshman
Mickey Platz (0-1) took the loss for the Warriors, giving up two hits, an earned run, one walk and a strikeout in 1.1 innings of relief. Bryan (1-0) earned the win by pitching a perfect top of the ninth. Prince lasted four innings, giving up five hits, two runs, four walks and two strikeouts.
Hendrix will travel to Shreveport, La. this weekend for a three-game series at Centenary College beginning Friday.
