Warriors Drop Series Opener to Gents

Junior center fielder Collin Radack extended his hitting streak to 12 games with three hits on Friday

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Hendrix College baseball team lost the opening game of a three-game series 3-1 to Centenary College at Shehee Stadium on Friday night. The Warriors (3-4) outhit the Gents (6-2) 7-5, but still came out on the short end of the pitcher's duel.

Centenary pitcher Layton Tromba (2-0), gave up just an unearned run and fanned six in nine innings. Hendrix junior Jacob Perschke (1-1) fanned eight batters, but allowed three runs, a walk and hit a batter.

The Gents scored in the bottom of the first when catcher Ryan Gasporra was hit and later scored on a ground ball off the bat of left fielder Christian Sebastien. Centenary added two more in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Jemari James and a RBI-ground out by Craig Littleman.

The Warriors scored in the top of the seventh when sophomore right fielder Matt Simmons led off by reaching on an error, was bunted over by sophomore catcher Seth Mobley and scored on a base hit by Perschke.

In the top of the ninth, Hendrix junior center fielder Collin Radack led off with a double and Simmons reached on an error, giving the Warriors two runners on with one out. After a pop up by Mobley, Perschke hit a ground ball leading to Simmons' making the final out.

Radack led Hendrix with three hits, moving his streak to 12 games, and a stolen base. Sophomore first baseman Ryan Ritz had two hits. Sebastien and first baseman Marc Martinez had two hits each for the Gents.

Hendrix and Centenary will play game two on Saturday at noon.
