Centenary Tops Hendrix 5-1

SHREVEPORT, La. – After falling in Friday's series opener, the Hendrix College baseball team lost again to Centenary College 5-1 at Shehee Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors (3-5) outhit the Gents (7-2) 12-9, but left 15 runners on base.

Centenary scored two runs in the bottom of the first when catcher Yan Gasporra doubled and was moved over by first baseman Marc Martinez' base hit. Right fielder Tyler Clakley followed with a single, scoring Gasporra and  Martinez crossed the plate after a passed ball.

In the bottom of the fourth, Christian Sebastien led off with an infield single, stole second, moved to third on an error after a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a ground ball by Ben Schweinfurth. The Gents went up 4-0 in the fifth when Martinez doubled and scored on an error.

Hendrix' lone run came in the top of the sixth when sophomore catcher Seth Mobley hit a single to center field, moved to second on an Austin Womack base hit and scored on a Charlie St. Claire hit.

Centenary added one more run in the eighth on a Luis Gonzalez sacrifice fly that plated Clakley.

Mobley went 3-for-4 for the Warriors and St. Clair had two hits. Junior center fielder Collin Radack extended his hitting streak to 13 games with two hits and sophomore first baseman Ryan Ritz also added a pair of singles. Martinez and Clakley had two hits each for the Gents.

Centenary reliever Nic Parrott (1-0) earned the win by allowing six hits, one run, a walk and strikeout in three innings. Taylor Henry earned the three-innings save. Warrior sophomore Nick Land (1-1) was tabbed with the loss, allowing seven hits, one earned run, two walks and striking out five in six innings.

Hendrix will try to take the final game of the series from Centenary at 1 p.m. Sunday.
