Warriors Open SAA Play with 8-3 Win Over Lynx

CONWAY,  Ark. – The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team opened Southern Athletic Association play with an 8-3 victory over Rhodes College at Warrior Field on Wednesday night. The Warriors (3-5, 1-0) outshot the Lynx (4-4, 0-1) 51-22, including 25-13 in shots on goal, and had a 41-24 ground ball advantage.

Hendrix also committed season-lows in penalties (two for one minute) and turnovers with 14. The Warriors also won 10-of-15 faceoff opportunities and were 19-of-22 on clear attempts (86 percent).

Junior midfielder Cameron Millstone put Hendrix on the board with the only goal of first quarter. Freshman Travis Rabun assisted freshman Patrick Rogers goal 15 seconds into the second quarter and Millstone added another score with 1:09 left in the half to put the Warriors up 3-0 at the break. Millstone scored 33 seconds into the third quarter before Rhodes finally scored on a man-up goal by Merrill Charette. Millstone added two more goals in the quarter and freshman Taylor Preisler assisted freshman Zachary Baier's man-up goal to give Hendrix a 7-1 lead at the end of the third.

Rhodes added two goals in the fourth  - Matt Vavrek assisted by Cooper Robinson and Charette assited by Will Estes. Preisler found the back of the cage after a pass from Rabun in the fourth.

Millstone took a school-record 23 shots, 11 of which were on goal, for five scores. The St. Louis, Mo. native also had a team-high seven ground balls and was 10-of-13 on faceoffs. Rabun registered two assists and Preisler had a goal and assist for two points each. Baier had a goal and six ground balls and senior defenseman Robert McCarthy picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover. Sophomore Matt Carpenter had four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Freshman Joe Takacs recorded 11 saves in goal.

Lynx keeper Braxton Carr had 17 saves and five ground balls.

Hendrix will travel to Jackson, Miss. for a SAA match-up with Millsaps College on Saturday.
