JACKSON, Miss. – The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team moved to 2-0 in the Southern Athletic Association after defeating Millsaps College at Harper Davis Stadium on Saturday morning. The Warriors (4-5, 2-0) were outshot by the host Majors (3-5, 0-2) 41-33, but had a 23-19 advantage in shots on goal.
In the first quarter, Hendrix received a pair of goals from freshman attacker
Alex Heather and one from leading scorer
Cameron Millstone, while Millsaps' Simon Sherman scored and Ryan McKay recorded a goal and an assist.
The Majors tied the game at 3-3 late in the second, but Hendrix answered with back-to-back goals just before halftime to go up 5-3. Freshman
Travis Rabun assisted Heather's third goal of the game and Millstone netted his second score.
Sophomore
Patrick Diamonon put the Warriors up 6-3 to start the third, but Millsaps cut the lead to 6-5 with the next two goals. Millstone and Heather both found the back of the cage to end the quarter, giving Hendrix an 8-5 advantage.
Hunter Stevison started the fourth quarter with a pair of goals, allowing the Majors to the game at 8-8. The Warriors ended the game with four unanswered goals with Diamonon and freshman
Patrick Rogers scoring once and freshman attacker
Zachary Baier scoring twice.
Heather led Hendrix with four goals and Millstone had three goals, an assist and 10 ground balls. Diamonon and Baier each scored twice and Rabun had a pair of assists. Freshman
Dan D'Ostuni picked up three ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper
Joe Takacs recorded 16 saves.
Stevison led Millsaps with three goals. McKay recorded two goals and an assist and Scott Budd had a goal and two assists. Brandon Allison led Millsaps with six ground balls. Chris Hood stopped 11 shots in goal.
Hendrix will travel to Atlanta, Ga. on Friday to face conference-foe Oglethorpe University.
