CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team was swept in a Southern Athletic Association double-header by Berry College at Warrior Field on Friday afternoon. The visiting Vikings (19-7, 11-3) set school records in runs and hits in a 23-3, five-inning win in the opener, then topped the Warriors (17-7, 7-3) 9-5 in the nightcap.
Hendrix and Berry will wrap up the series with a double-header at noon on Saturday.
In game one, the Vikings outhit the Warriors 23-5 and scored runs in every inning, including eight in the in the top of the fifth.
The Warriors scored one run in the third when sophomore right fielder led off with a base hit, advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior left fielder
Tiffany Hubbard and scored on a ground out by sophomore shortstop
Michaela Larabee. Hendrix added two runs in the fifth on a RBI-singles from Hubbard and Larabee.
Center fielder Sara Vigue led Berry at the plate, going 5-for-5 with three runs scored, four RBI and a home run. Natalie Boyd also hit a home run and drove in three runs. Second baseman Lacey Herring had two hits, including a double and knocked in four.
Five different players recorded hits for Hendrix.
Viking pitcher Cailee Shamoun (8-2) earned the win with five strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. Senior
Ashley Halbert gave up 12 hits and 10 earned runs in three innings in the losing effort.
In the second game, the Vikings jumped out to an 8-2 lead after four innings and hung on for the win.

Shelby Anderson tripled and scored on a ground out by junior catcher
DJ Sandidge in the second. Hubbard hit a solo home run in the third, her first blast of the year, over the fence in left center field. Hendrix added three more runs in the fifth on a three-base error and a Larabee ground ball RBI.
Seven different Warriors had one hit each. Berry catcher Abbey Daniels went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Vigue had two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored.
Allison Coronado (5-3) threw four innings of relief, allowing five hits and one earned run to get the win. Halbert (8-5) allowed 14 hits, six earned runs, three walks and struck out four.
