Centre Tops Hendrix on Senior Night

Senior Robert McCarthy broke the school record for caused turnovers in a season

CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-2 loss to Centre College in Southern Athletic Association play at Warrior Field on Friday night.

Before the game, the Warriors (5-8, 3-3) honored their two seniors – attacker Zach Doelger and defenseman Robert McCarthy.

Hendrix will wrap up the regular season with Sewanee – The University of the South at home on Sunday at noon. With one game to play, the Warriors are in a tie for fourth place at 3-3 with Birmingham-Southern.

The Colonels (9-2, 5-1) outshot Hendrix 41-24 overall and 27-12 in shots on goal. Centre also had a 53-27 ground ball advantage and committed 10 fewer turnovers (36-26). The visitors also went 7-of-12 on extra-man opportunities, while the Warriors were 1-of-10.

Connor Stubbs scored the first two goals of the game for Centre. Doelger made the game 2-1 with an assist from freshman Travis Rabun at 6:21 in the opening quarter. The Colonels tacked on three more in the first and four in the second to take a 10-1 lead at halftime. After three more goals in the third, Hendrix freshman attacker Blake Campbell scored with 10 seconds left to make the game 13-2. Centre scored four man-up goals in the final period for the 17-2 win.

Rabun's assist gave him the school record for assists in a season with 19. MCarthy had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, giving him the record with 28 caused turnovers on the year. Freshman keeper Joe Takacs had six saves and seven ground balls in the first half, while freshman Jesse Crowel had four saves and four ground balls in the second.

Zack Connors had four goals and two assists while picking up nine ground balls to lead Centre. Stubbs had three goals and an assist and Peter Murphy had three goals and two assists.  Seth Gray also recorded four points with two goals and two assists.  Bryce McCoy had seven saves in 54 minutes for the Colonels.
