Rhodes Tops Hendrix to Tie Series

CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Rhodes College in Southern Athletic Association play at Warrior Field on Saturday afternoon. The host Warriors fall to 16-18 overall and 7-9 in the league, while the Lynx improves to 18-16 and 9-8.

Rhodes put two on the board in the top of the first. Third baseman Josh Keen drew a walk, stole second and scored on a double by designated hitter Matt Burnick. First baseman Matt Killary followed with a base hit to left field, scoring Burnick. The Lynx went up 3-0 in the fourth when catcher Logan Booksh led off with an infield single and later scored on a base hit from shortstop Lynden Pindling.

Hendrix remained down 3-0 until the bottom of the seventh. Junior center fielder Collin Radack led off with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice from sophomore right fielder Matt Simmons. After a wild pitch and a Thomas Weber walk, sophomore third baseman Brady Newville plated Radack to cut the lead to 3-1. Junior pinch runner Jacob Perschke moved to third on a wild pitch, but got thrown out at the plate on a ground ball by sophomore Seth Mobley. With two outs, freshman shortstop Brandon Smith singled through the right side to score Newville and cutting the deficit to 3-2. Rhodes reliever Stuart Voges then came in to get Austin Womack to ground out to end the rally.

Booksh and Pindling had two hits each for the Lynx. Radack had two hits and a steal for the Warriors.

Rhodes left-handed starter Blake Glauben (3-3) earned the win, going 6.2 innings and allowing four hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Voges picked up his second save of the season, allowing two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Sophomore Nick Land (3-3) started and loss for Hendrix, giving up seven hits, three runs, three walks and striking out one in 3.1 innings. Freshman Kyle Teachout threw 5.2 scoreless frames, allowing just two hits and a walk to go with a pair of strikeouts.

The series is now tied at one game apiece and the finale will be Sunday at noon. Before the game, Hendrix will honor senior pitcher Tyler Keever.
