CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College baseball defeated Rhodes College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field to take the Southern Athletic Association series two games to one.

The Warriors (17-18, 8-9) got eight strong innings from freshman starter Will Nichol (2-2), who allowed just six hits, one run and two walks while striking out four. Lefty reliever Tyler Keever, who was honored before the game as part of Hendrix' senior day celebration, entered the ninth, but hit a batter and gave up a base hit to start. Freshman closer Daniel Imbro came and committed an error on Lynx (18-17, 9-9) second baseman Justin Genter's sacrifice attempt, loading the bases with no outs. Imbro then induced back-to-back infield flies and recorded the final out on fielder's choice ground ball to shortstop Brandon Smith to earn the reliever's fifth save of the year.

Hendrix scored both of their runs in the third inning when sophomore first baseman Ryan Ritz led off with a walk and freshman second baseman Charlie St. Clair was hit by a pitch. Junior center fielder Collin Radack followed with a base, allowing Ritz to score. Sophomore right fielder Matt Simmons bunted St. Clair and Radack up a base, then junior designated hitter Thomas Weber hit a sac fly to center field, allowing St. Clair to cross the plate.

Rhodes scored in the top of the fifth when shortstop Lynden Pindling single, moved to third on a Josh Keen base hit and made it home on a Nichol wild pitch.

St. Clair went 2-for-2, was hit twice and stole a base for the Warriors. Smith hit a double, the only extra-base hit of the game. Right fielder Patrick Kilkenny had two hits for the Lynx.

Rhodes starter Matt Burnick (2-2) went six innings, giving up four hits, two runs a walk and three strikeouts.

Hendrix will play their final non-conference game of the season at University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. on Tuesday.
