BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team ended the 2013 campaign with a 22-6 loss at Birmingham-Southern College in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday. The host fourth-seeded Panthers (7-9) outshot the fifth-seeded Warriors (5-10) 52-20 overall and 34-14 on goal.
Hendrix led in ground balls 46-44, but committed more turnovers (29-20). BSC went 4-for-6 on extra-man opportunities, while Hendrix was 0-for-4.
The Panthers led 6-2 after the first quarter and 12-3 at halftime. They scored the first six goals of the third quarter and led 19-5 headed into the final period.
The Warriors were led by junior midfielder
Cameron Millstone's four goals and nine ground balls. The St. Louis, Mo. native ended the season with a school record 64 points, 51 goals and 138 ground balls. Freshmen
Taylor Preisler and
Zachary Baier added Hendrix' other goals. Freshman midfielder
Travis Rabun had one assist, giving him the school record with 20 on the season. Rabun also picked up six ground balls.
It was the final game in the careers of defenseman
Robert McCarthy and
Zach Doelger. McCarthy ends his career as the Warriors' all-time leader in games played (54) and caused turnovers (61) and second in ground balls (263). Doelger finishes tied for fifth in career points (35), eighth in goals (24) and seventh in assists (11).
Evan Lalande led BSC with five goals and five assists. Mike VanSickle had five goals and an assists and Peter Raffanti had four goals. Brennan Ott scored a goal and assisted four to go with 13 ground balls.
