JACKSON, Miss. – The Hendrix College baseball team's 2013 campaign came to a close on Sunday with a pair of losses to #25 Millsaps College in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Semifinals at Twenty Field. The fourth-seeded Warriors (21-22) needed to win one game to advance to next weekend's Championship Series against Birmingham-Southern, but the top seed and host Majors (32-11) took the first game 2-1, forcing a second contest, then closed out the day with an 8-4 win.

In the opener, Millsaps scored in the third when first baseman Keith Shuamker doubled and was driven in by catcher Wes Perkins. They went up 2-0 in the sixth after center fielder Isaac Glenn lead off with a single and later scored from third on a Jared Myers groundout.

Hendrix scored in the bottom of the sixth when junior center fielder Collin Radack led off with a base hit, moved to second when junior first baseman Thomas Weber was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on a single from sophomore right fielder Matt Simmons.

The Warriors only had six hits, with sophomore shortstop Ryan Ritz responsible for two of them Simmons had the RBI single and a school record seventh sacrifice bunt of the season. Four different Majors had two hits each.

Will Elmore (2-1) earned the win for Millsaps, going 5.2 innings and allowing five hits, one run, one walk and striking out four. West Hammond picked up the save by fanning two in 1.1 perfect innings. Sophomore Nick Land (4-4) took the loss for Hendrix, giving up eight hits, two runs, three walks and striking out one over seven innings. Junior Justin Mosbey allowed two hits in two scoreless relief innings.

In game two, the Warriors opened up the scoring with four runs on three hits and two errors in the top of the fourth. Junior left fielder Austin Womack led off with a base hit, stole second and scored on a RBI single by freshman second baseman Charlie St. Clair. Simmons and sophomore third baseman Brady Newville also recorded RBI in the inning.

The Majors cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the frame when Glenn drew a bases loaded walk, allowing Shumaker to score. Millsaps took a 6-4 lead in the sixth on five runs and five hits. Right fielder William Chenoweth had a two-run double in the inning and Shumaker registered a sac fly.

Shumaker and second baseman Kevin Wall had RBI singles in the eighth to give Millsaps the 8-4 win.

The Hendrix offense was limited to just five hits. Sophomore designated hitter John Pounds had the only extra base hit with a double. Shortstop Samuel Doucet had three hits for the Majors. Five others had two hits apiece.

Hammond (2-0) threw 5.2 innings of scoreless relief, giving up one hit, a walk and fanning two to get the win. Freshman reliever Daniel Imbro (3-3) took the loss for Hendrix.
