Hendrix Mounts Comeback, But Falls to BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Hendrix College men's lacrosse overcame a four-goal deficit to lead, but could not hold as they fell to 10-8 to Birmingham-Southern College in Southern Athletic Association play on Saturday afternoon.

The host Panthers (5-8, 3-2) led 6-2 in the middle of the second quarter, but junior midfielder Cameron Millstone scored back-to-back goals to end the half for the Warriors (5-7, 3-2), cutting making the game 6-4 at the break.

Hendrix then went on to outscore BSC 4-1 in the third, gaining an 8-7 advantage. The Panthers blanked the Warriors in the fourth, while netting three scores for the 10-8 win.

For the game, BSC outshot Hendrix 40-28, but had just a 20-19 shots on goal advantage. The Warriors picked up 44 ground balls, compared to 31 for the Panthers and Hendrix won 14-of-22 faceoffs.

Millstone tied his career high with six goals, moving his career total to 100. The St. Louis, Mo. native also broke his own school record for points in a season (56) and goals (46). Millstone picked up 11 ground balls and went 13-of-20 on faceoffs. Freshman midfielder Travis Rabun assisted two goals and tied Ben Nelson's 2011 school record with 18 on the season. Rabun also had a season-best seven ground balls. Freshman Alex Heather and sophomore Patrick Diamonon each scored a goal and freshman Patrick Rogers assisted one. Sophomore Matt Carpenter recorded four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Freshman keeper Joe Takacs stopped 10 shots in goal.

BSC was led by Evan Lalande's five goals. Peter Raffanti had three and Nico DeRosa assisted two. Breenan Ott led the Panthers with seven ground balls and Andrew Huffman recorded 11 saves.

Hendrix will return home on Friday to face SAA rival Centre College at 7 p.m.
