CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's tennis team earned their first win of the season, defeating John Brown University 5-4 at the Hendrix Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Warriors (1-2) took two of the three doubles match-ups, with juniors
Bob Berardi and
Robert Sheets topping Cameron McLendon and Colton Cheek 8-3 at number one and freshmen
Karthik Garimella and
Ian McVinney winning 8-3 over Alex Baker and Darwin Silva in the second flight.
The Golden Eagles (0-1) number three doubles team of Luke Pascoe and Blake Zoellner narrowly edged out freshmen
Ilya Pound and
Zach Villemez 9-8.
Sheets, Garimella and McVinney each won their singles matchups in straight sets. Villemez and Pound took their opponents to a third set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell in number five and six singles, respectively.
Hendrix will be back in action on Friday when they host Austin College at 6 p.m.
