Warriors Sweep Lady Crusaders

IRVING, Texas - The Hendrix College softball team won both games of a double-header against the University of Dallas at Crusader Field on Sunday afternoon. The Warriors (2-2) overcame a 6-0 deficit to win 7-6 in the opener, then dominated the Lady Crusaders (2-4) 11-5 in game two.

Dallas scored two runs in the first and four more after five hits and three errors in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Hendrix junior shortstop Michaela Larabee led off with a double in the fifth and was scored on a Shelby Anderson triple. Anderson also scored on the play after an error on the throw back to the infield.

Senior center fielder Tiffany Hubbard reached on an error in the sixth and freshman second baseman Victoria Hughes hit a home run over the fence in right center to make the game 6-4. An error and three hits led to three runs and the win for the Warriors in the top of the seventh. Hubbard drove in the winning run with an infield single, scoring senior catcher DJ Sandidge from third.

Larabee went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base, and sophomore designated player Kayla Patton had three hits, including a double. Hughes had two hits, including the two-run homer.

Shortstop Erin Begle recorded three hits, including a double, for the Lady Crusaders. Both teams had 13 hits.

Freshman Hope Resor (1-1) picked up the win in relief, giving up two hits and two walks with one strikeout in three scoreless innings. Katherine Lee (1-1) struck out seven but allowed 13 hits and three earned runs.

Hendrix opened with a three-run top of the first in game two. With one out Larabee singles and scores on a triple from Anderson. Patton knocked in Anderson on a ground ball and freshman catcher Amanda Riley singled and scored on a Hubbard base hit.

Begle hit a two-run double in the third to make the game 3-2. The Warriors exploded for seven runs on six hits and two walks in the fourth inning. Senior left fielder Catelyn Gibbs and Hughes drove in a run each, Patton had a three-run double and Riley knocked in Patton with a triple in the frame.

Begle added another RBI double in the bottom of the fifth and left fielder Lyda Tesauro had a run-scoring single to make the score 10-4. In the sixth, Riley singled and was driven in by her sister, sophomore right fielder Courtney Riley with hit to center field to go up 11-4. Begle drove in the final run of the game for Dallas in the bottom of the seventh.

Amanda Riley went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Larabee had three hits and two runs scored and Hubbard went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Patton had two hits, including a double, with four RBI and Hughes added two hits and a steal.

Begle went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four driven in for Dallas.

Patton (1-1) struck out four and gave up seven hits, two earned runs and a walk to earn her first win of the year. Chloe Campise (1-2) took the loss, allowing nine hits and six runs in 3.2 innings.

Hendrix will host the Warrior Spring Fling beginning with a double-header against Greenville College on Friday night.
