GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team opened the 2014 campaign with a 10-3 loss to Southwestern University on the road Saturday afternoon.
The host Pirates (1-0) outshot the Warriors (0-1) 39-22 overall and 25-8 on goal. SU also held a 32-24 ground ball advantage, despite Hendrix willing 11-of-16 faceoffs.
Kyle Anderson scored just 16 seconds into the game for the Pirates, but the Warriors tied it up at the 10:05 mark in the first quarter when freshman attacker

Blake Campbell found the cage 25 seconds into the second quarter to give Hendrix a 2-1 lead. Southwestern scored four more goals before the half to take a 5-2 lead into the break.
The Pirates tacked on two more goals in the third quarter and scored the first three in the final period for a 10-2 lead. Freshman

Alex Ortenstone recorded three ground balls and caused two turnovers for Hendrix. Sophomore

Jason Blatt won 10-of-13 faceoffs and picked up three ground balls. Sophomore keeper
Dennis O'Hara recorded 15 saves in goal and had three ground balls.
Austin Fox led the Pirates with five goals and Alex Michael had a goal and three assists. Connor Koper led SU with four ground balls and Ross Warkentin caused three turnovers. Daniel Donovan recorded two saves in goal in 53 minutes and Charlie Fisher had three saves in seven minutes.
Hendrix will host Rockhurst University on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
