CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team swept the University of the Ozarks in a double-header at Warrior Field on Tuesday night. The Warriors (9-7) won the first game 5-3, then defeated the Lady Eagles (2-18) 9-3 in the nightcap.
In game one, Hendrix went up 2-0 in the second when senior second baseman
Catelyn Gibbs drove in
Courtney Riley and
Tiffany Hubbard with a hit to right field. Two errors and a base hit led to a run in the third, putting the Orange & Black up 3-0.
In the fourth, Hubbard led off with a double and stole third before scoring on a ground out by junior shortstop
Michaela Larabee. Sophomore third baseman
Shelby Anderson followed with a home run to left center for a 5-0 lead.
Shortstop Kayla Gray hit a two-run double for Ozarks int he top of the fifth and left fielder Kristen Millwood hit a sac fly in the seventh for the final run of the game.
Larabee had two hits and Hubbard had a pair of doubles, a stolen base and scored twice. Anderson hit the home run and had two runs as well.
Center fielder Molly Bowman had two hits for Ozarks.
Sophomore
Kayla Patton (6-4) earned the win, allowing six hits, three unearned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Haley McKee (2-8) gave up eight hits, four earned runs and three walks.
In game two, Gibbs led the bottom of the first off with a base hit and scored on a Patton double. Freshman first baseman
Sydney Ozersky singled, moving to Patton to third, then junior right fielder
Morgan Fires had a base hit, plating Patton for an early 2-0 lead.
The Warriors added four more runs in the third on four hits and an error. Ozersky recorded a RBI-double and senior catcher knocked in two with a base hit in the frame.
Ozarks cut their deficit to 6-2 with two runs on three hits in the fourth. Hendrix gained the two runs back when Anderson drove in Hubbard and Gibbs with a double in the bottom of the fourth. Larabee singled and scored on another double from Anderson in the sixth.
Right fielder Bailey Hames came up with a RBI-single in the seventh for the Lady Eagles.
Hendrix outhit Ozarks 13-11 in game two. Anderson tied the Warrior game record with three doubles in the game, to go with three RBI and a run scored. Gibbs, Ozersky, Fires and Sandidge each had two hits.
Gray went 3-for-4 for Ozarks.
Freshman
Hope Resor (2-2) earned the win, giving up three runs, a walk and two strikeouts. Tabitha McClane (0-6) allowed 10 hits and six earned runs over four innings in the loss.
Hendrix will be off until Tuesday, Mar. 25 when they host Nebraska Wesleyan.
