CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team wrapped up a 14-game home stand with a split against Nebraska Wesleyan University at Warrior Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors (10-8) took game one 8-1, but the Prairie Wolves (7-7) rebounded to win the nightcap 11-1 in five innings.
In the first game, Hendrix took advantage of two errors and four hits in the bottom of the first for six runs. Junior shortstop
Michaela Larabee had a RBI-double and junior right fielder
Morgan Fires recorded a sac fly in the inning. Senior center fielder
Tiffany Hubbard knocked two in on a base hit in the frame as well.
Senior second baseman
Catelyn Gibbs hit a single with one out in the fourth, moved to second on a Larabee walk and scored on an error to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead. Madi Francis had a pinch-hit RBI double, scoring right fielder Brittni Eitzmann for NWU's only run of the game in the fifth. Freshman catcher
Amanda Riley drove in freshman first baseman
Sydney Ozersky in the bottom of the fifth for the final run of the game.
Riley went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and sophomore third baseman
Shelby Anderson had two hits as well. Ozersky and Gibbs scored twice and Hubbard knocked two in.
Eitzmann recorded two doubles for the Prairie Wolves.
Sophomore
Kayla Patton (7-4) earned the win, giving up four hits, one run, four walks and three strikeouts in the complete game. Megan Cottier (3-2) took the loss, lasting just 3.1 innings and allowing six hits, four earned runs and three walks.
In game two, NWU scored six in the second and three in the third to take an early 9-0 lead. Hubbard led off the third with a base hit, was bunted over two bases by Gibbs and scored on a Larabee sac fly for the Warriors' only run of the contest.
The Prairie Wolves tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth.
Hendrix committed four errors in the game, giving up eight unearned runs.
Fires went 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Warriors at the plate. Hubbard had the Orange & Black's only other hit.
Left fielder Rachel Kubik went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead NWU. Kayla Randel went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Eitzmann had a triple and two RBI as well.
Chaley Hamilton (4-3) earned the win, giving up three hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts. Freshman
Hope Resor (2-3) took the loss for the Warriors.
Hendrix will travel to Decatur, Ga. for a double-header against Agnes Scott on Thursday.
