DECATUR, Ga. - The Hendrix College softball team split a double-header against Agnes Scott College on Thursday night at Oakhurst Park. The Warriors (11-9) took game one 6-3, but the host Scotties (15-13) won the nightcap 9-4.
With two outs in the top of the first of game one, sophomore third baseman
Shelby Anderson singled and scored on a double from sophomore pitcher
Kayla Patton to give Hendrix a 1-0 lead. Freshman first baseman
Sydney Ozersky led the second off by being hit by a pitch, moved up on an error and a hit from sophomore left fielder
Courtney Riley and scored on a ground ball by senior center fielder
Tiffany Hubbard.
After an ASC run in the bottom of the second, the Warriors went back up 3-1 in the third when Anderson doubled and was knocked in with a base hit from junior right fielder
Morgan Fires. Riley singled, stole second and later scored on a
Michaela Larabee base hit to go up 4-1 in the fourth.
RBI singles from Julia Blattner and Ashley Monsrud in the bottom of the sixth made the game 4-3. Patton led off the top of the seventh with walk and was ran for by sophomore
Taylor Bennett. Ozersky followed with a home run blast over the left field fence, giving Hendrix the 6-3 advantage.
Riley went 4-for-4 with a run scored and Ozersky was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Anderson also had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Seven different players had a hit each for the Scotties.
Patton (8-4) earned the win, allowing seven hits, three runs and a walk. Casey Arnold (3-6) took the loss, giving up seven hits and three earned runs over four innings.
In game two, a hit and an error gave ASC a 1-0 lead in the first. The game remained at 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth when the Scotties put up three runs on two hits and an error. Center fielder Alyssa Millkin had the big blow of the inning with a two-run single.
In the top of the sixth, Larabee singled and scored on an Anderson triple. Patton followed with a sac fly to left, allowing Anderson to score, making the game 4-2.
ASC answered with five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the frame. Millikin had a two-run double in the inning. Riley and Hubbard recorded run-scoring grounders in the top of the seventh to make the game 9-4.
Larabee, Ozersky and Riley each had two hits for the Warriors. Millikin went 4-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored and two steals. Monsrud and Daigneau each had a pair of hits.
Blattner (6-0) earned the win for ASC, giving up seven hits, two earned runs a walk and three strikeouts. Freshman
Hope Resor (2-4) took the loss, surrendering nine hits and four earned runs.
Hendrix will take on Sewanee - The University of the South in a four-game Southern Athletic Association series beginning Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn.
