CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team split a double-header with Centre College in Southern Athletic Association play on Saturday at Warrior Field. The visiting Colonels (4-6, 1-1) won the first game 11-9 in 10 innings, before the Warriors (6-7, 3-2) took a 2-1 decision in the nightcap.
Hendrix sophomore
Will Nichol (1-0) earned the compete game victory in the second contest, allowing six hits, one run and one walk with four strikeouts in seven innings. Rob Caudill (0-1) struck out three and gave up four hits, two runs and four walks in six innings in the losing effort.
The Colonels scored in the top of the second when first baseman Trey Litsey led off with a single and later scored from third on a ground ball by Forrest Goodwin. The Warriors tied it in the third when senior center fielder
Collin Radack led off with an infield single, stole second and third and scored on
Thomas Weber grounder.
Junior right fielder
Matt Simmons led off the sixth with a double, was bunted over by senior second baseman
Jacob Perschke and scored the winning run on a sac fly by freshman third baseman
Spencer Summers.
Centre outhit Hendrix 6-4 in the game. Radack finished with three stolen bases.
In the opener, the Colonels took a 9-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Warriors forced extra innings with six runs on four hits, two hit batters and a walk. Freshman left fielder
Wyatt Hogan hit a two-run single which tied the game.
Centre won the game in the 10th with RBIs from Kyle Cook and Litsey.
Hendrix outhit Centre 15-13 in the game. Radack went 4-for-5. Ryan Rtiz, Perschke, Summers and Simmons each had two hits.
Litsey went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Colonels. Cook drove in three runs and second baseman Sam Spees scored four times.
Reliever Alex Edwards (2-0) had one strikeout and allowed one run and three hits in 1.2 innings for the win. Junior
Nick Land (1-2) allowed four hits, two earned runs, four walks and fanned two in 5.1 innings of relief in the loss.
Hendrix and Centre will play the rubber match of the series at noon on Sunday.
