BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team ended their season with a 9-7 loss to Birmingham-Southern College in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Saturday.
The fifth-seeded Warriors end their season at 7-10 and broke several school records, including wins points (258), goals (181), assists (107), ground balls (638), man-up goals (31), faceoff percentage (.655) and goals against average (8.65). The #4 Panthers move on to the semifinals with a 9-7 record.
Hendrix sophomore attacker
Patrick Rogers scored the first goal of the game just 50 seconds in on a pass from sophomore
Travis Rabun. BSC scored the next four to end the first quarter to lead 4-1. The Warriors outscored the Panthers 4-2 in the second quarter, to make the game 6-5 in the Panthers' favor at halftime.
Freshman
Robbie Borrello tied the game with an assist from freshman
Patrick Munn at the 9:55 mark of the third quarter. Senior midfielder
Cameron Millstone gave the Warriors a 7-6 lead with an unassisted score with 4:59 to play in the third. Austin Hafdell tied it back up for BSC at 3:19 in the third. Sawyer Page and Peter Raffanti added goals in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers the win.
Rogers led the Warriors with three goals. Millstone had two goals and ended his career as the program's leader in points (202), goals (143), assists (59), shots (552), shots on goal (353), ground balls (367) and games played (57).
Rabun added two assists and freshman
TK Shaffer had a goal and an assist. Freshmen
Alex Ortenstone and
Cody Eckes each dished out an assist as well. Eckes ended the season with 21 assists, a new school record, passing Rabun's mark of 20 set in 2013.
Freshman midfielder
Jason Blatt had 10 ground balls and
Branden Harbaugh,
Kevin Estell and
Conor Baird each caused a turnover. Freshman
Christian Wheeler had 13 saves in goal.
Rafanti had four goals to lead BSC. McHale Schneider had a goal and four assists. Thomas Grove had eight ground balls and Raffanti caused three turnovers. Conor Perine stopped eight shots in goal.
The Panthers outshot the Warriors 40-21 overall and 22-15 on goal. The Warriors had a 25-22 advantage and the teams split with 10 faceoffs won a piece. BSC won the turnover battle 13-19 and went 23-of-24 on clears while Hendrix went 18-of-24.
