Hendrix Edged Out by #4 Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team fell just short against Arkansas Tech University in a double-header at Tech Field on Tuesday. The Wonder Boys (38-8), the fourth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, extended their winning streak to 19 games with a 2-1 victory in game one and a 4-2 win over the Warriros (22-18) in the nightcap.

Hendrix senior second baseman Jacob Perschke led the top of the fourth off with a home run down the right field line for the first run of the opener. ATU answered in the bottom of the frame when center fielder Sage Boehner led off with a double and scored on a Chance Scarmado double. The Wonder Boys took the lead when Scarmado scored on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Kris Ayers.

The Warriors outhit the Wonder Boys 5-4, with Collin Radack, Ryan Ritz, Thomas Weber and Zane Heather each getting singles to go with Perschke's homer. Third baseman Jay Johnson picked up a double for Tech.

Reliever Ethan Crocker  earned the win by allowing just one hit in 1.1 innings. Randy Vallejo struck out one and gave up one hit in the seventh to get the save. Sophomore Daniel Imbro (2-3) allowed three hits and two runs and struck out three over 3.1 innings for Hendrix.

Radack led off game two with a double and moved to third on a Perschke base hit. Freshman left fielder Wyatt Hogan followed with a ground out, plating Radack. Ritz was hit by a pitch and Weber singled to load the bases. Junior designated hitter Brady Newville hit an infield single, scoring Perschke to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.

The game remained scoreless until the Wonder Boys managed four runs on two hits, an error, two walks and two wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth.

Hendrix outhit Tech 7-3. Radack went 3-for-4 with a double and Perschke was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Patrick Casselberry and Jay Johnson had RBI for ATU.

Crocker (4-0) once again picked up the win by throwing a perfect sixth inning. Vallejo allowed one hit in the seventh for his 14th save of the year. Freshman left-handed reliever Colten Poellinger (1-3) took the loss, giving up two hits and two earned runs in an inning.

Hendrix will open the Southern Athletic Association Tournament with Millsaps College in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday.
