Berry Completes Sweep of Hendrix

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College softball lost the final two games of a four-game series to Southern Athletic Association foe Berry College at Ford Field on Sunday. After winning both games on Saturday, the Vikings (23-7, 12-2) defeated the Warriors (13-13, 7-6) 5-3 and 9-1 in six innings.

In game one, Berry took a 1-0 lead in the second when first baseman Shelby Smith and catcher Abby Daniels hit back-to-back doubles. The home team added four runs in the third on a pair of two-run homers from Smith and designated player Marie Collop. Hendrix plated three in the top of the seventh on two hits and three errors. Sophomore first baseman Shelby Anderson had a two-run double, scoring freshman second baseman Victoria Hughes and junior shortstop Michaela Larabee in the frame.

Hughes and junior center fielder Morgan Fires each had two hits for the Warriors. Smith and Collop had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings.

Kayla Davis (9-2) earned the win with three strikeouts while allowing seven hits and three unearned runs. Sophomore Kayla Patton (9-7) gave up nine hits and five runs in the loss.

Anderson singled and scored on a Fires base hit for the Warriors' only run of game two in the top of the first. Berry scored two runs in the first, two in the second and six in the sixth to end the game.

BC outhit Hendrix 12-7. Anderson recorded two hits and Hughes had two hits and a stolen bases for the Orange & Black. Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Shortstop Sarah Moore drove in three runs on two hits, including a double and third baseman Allison DeBusk went 3-for-3 with a double.

Allison Coronado (7-3) picked up the win, giving up five hits, one run, one walk and one strikeout in four innings. Freshman Hope Resor (2-5) took the loss.

Hendrix will go back on the road next weekend for a four-game conference series at Birmingham-Southern College.
