CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team scored five unaswered runs to come back for an 8-5 victory over the University of the Ozarks at Warrior Field on Wednesday night. The Warriors (17-13) overcame a 5-3 lead through four innings to defeat the Eagles (9-18).
Hendrix took a 2-0 lead in the second when junior shortstop
Ryan Ritz led off with a walk, moved to third on a
Thomas Weber base hit, then scored on a wild pitch. Weber was knocked by a base hit up the middle from freshman catcher
Logan Hiatt. Ozarks tied the game in the top of the third on a sac fly from shortstop Andrew Beck and a RBI-double from third baseman Tony Morales. The Warriors regained the lead in the bottom of the frame when Radack walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Jacob Perschke ground out.
The Eagles went up 5-3 in the fourth on a three-run triple by Beck. Freshman left fielder
Wyatt Hogan singled with two outs in the fifth and later scored on another wild pitch to make to make the game 5-4. The Orange & Black regained the lead for good with three runs in the sixth. With two outs, senior center fielder
Collin Radack singled and stole second and scored on a Perschke single. Hogan followed with a walk and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Ritz cleared the bases with a triple to put the Warriors up for good.
Weber doubled to start the seventh, was bunted over by sophomore catcher
Zane Heather and scored on a
Spencer Summers sacrifce fly for the final run of the game.
Weber went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk and two runs scored. Hogan was 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and a pair of runs. Radack scored twice with two steals and Ritz had two hits, including the triple, a stolen base and two RBI. Perschke also drove in two runs.
Beck was 2-for-4 with four RBI and second baseman Quinton Ray went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Freshman left-handed reliever
Colten Poellinger (1-1) earned the win with two strikeouts, three hits, one run and two walks allowed over 2.2 innings. Freshman
Billy Lovvorn allowed three hits and struck out one in three scoreless innings for his first save of the year. Lefty reliever Adam Geller (0-1) took the loss, allowing three hits, three runs and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Hendrix will host Oglethorpe University in a three-game Southern Athletic Association series beginning at noon on Saturday.
