Warriors Earn Draw in Opener

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. - Hendrix College men's soccer opened their season by playing to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon against Denison University in the Labor Day Classic hosted by Sewanee - The University of the South. Eric Bracy finished with a 110 minute shutout, making six saves in the team's season debut.

The Warriors were outshot 20-11 on the day, but strong play from the Hendrix back line kept Denison from scoring. The Big Red peppered Bracy with three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, but the senior turned every attempt away. In the 12th minute, Ryan Stanowski mustered the Warriors' first shot, but was denied by Denison goalkeeper Blake Schach.

The back-and-forth play continued throughout regulation with both goalkeepers putting up shutouts. After the first 90 minutes ended scoreless, the Warriors and Big Red were forced into overtime.

In the first extra frame, Denison had their best opportunity to score. Forward Kennedy Kommor managed to get away a shot that beat Bracy, but rattled off the post to keep the game level at 0-0. The Warriors responded with a threatening throughball but were whistled for offsides to prevent a breakaway.

In the second overtime period, Denison outshot the Warriors 3-0, but none of their efforts were on goal. The final whistle blew with the teams still tied at 0-0.

The Warriors (0-0-1) will return to action on Sunday, August 31 at 2:30 p.m. when they take on Washington and Lee in the second and final leg of the Labor Day Classic hosted by Sewanee.
